Our kalimbas and mbiras are handcrafted, one of a kind, works of art. No two will be exactly the same. Every instrument that we craft will have variation and irregularities as a result of its fabrication. These small imperfections are the mark of a handmade instrument and only add to its unique look and character. While we take the utmost care in precisely tuning every instrument, each kalimba or mbira will have it’s own underlying unique sound tones based on all the variables that go into handcrafting each instrument. We never use stain on any of our woods and as a result the colors of the wood are natural. We take the wood through an oiling process that protects and finishes it.
Our kalimbas and mbiras are designed by a hand pan player/amateur hand pan maker, so many of our scales stem from hand pan scales. This allows our kalimbas and mbiras to flow well with improvisational music. Our instruments can also be tuned to more traditional scales if you prefer to use sheet music.
11 Note electric/acoustic kalimba 
This instrument is very comfortable to hold and easy to play. It is made with top quality woods for a great acoustic sound and resonance. We hand craft and tune each instrument to make sure it arrives to you ready to play.
If you have been thinking about learning to play an instrument for the first time or are a seasoned musician the kalimba is a great option. It’s easy to to make music right away or add some variety to your existing soundscape. We think you will really enjoy what the kalimba has to offer.
15 Note Electric Mbira
We have updated our Mbira design to allow for more notes and a more ergonomic feel. We strove for a minimalist approach to include all of the electronics inside of a piece of wood not much thicker than 1″. We are still using our custom pickup technology and producing beautifully rich singing tones.
15 Note Electric Lamellae
Our 15 note Lamellaes rest on a 7″ piece of hand turned exotic hardwood. Padauk is shown but the type will vary based on availability. The wood’s finish is durable while bringing out the beauty of the wood naturally. The resonating body is stainless steel, shaped to give the instrument it’s distinct sound. Each instrument’s steel pan is baked or torched to bring out it’s unique color. Our specially designed bridge allows for independent note tuning which makes the tuning process extremely accurate. The result is a superior sounding instrument, finely tuned. The tines are made out of extra hard steel which gives the notes more sustain. They are hand hammered to their shape and then buffed for comfort. The bridge and tines are nickle plated to protect against corrosion.
Our pickup is custom designed to work with this instrument. The Lamellae is very feedback resistant.
Play through an amplifier: This is great for playing with other musicians whose instruments would normally overpower the kalimba. You can also get a portable amp to go busking with.
Using effects pedals: Add reverb, flange, delay or any other number of effects. Use a loop pedal so that your kalimba can accompany your other instruments even when you are by yourself.
Direct input for recording: Record samples to be used with other produced tracks or as a great addition to studio recording. Direct input also reduces any unwanted background noise.
